Resolution No. 174/2025 has been approved and published, confirming the implementation of the Intervention Plan for the Forest – Forest 2050, Greener Future. This plan is a forestry policy instrument that establishes an integrated vision up to 2050, aligned with economic, climate, and territorial priorities.
The Portuguese forest is one of the country’s most valuable strategic assets, playing a central role in the economy, environmental balance, and territorial cohesion. However, it faces significant structural and contextual constraints, such as rural fires, forest pests and diseases, the spread of invasive species, climate change, property fragmentation, and the need for more efficient management—all of which demand a structured and determined response.
The goal of this plan is to enhance the economic, environmental, and social value of the forest by maximizing landowners’ income, encouraging sustainable forest management, and increasing productive efficiency.
On the other hand, it aims to promote accessible and efficient administrative management, eliminating bureaucratic barriers and facilitating access to services, tools, and incentives that support forestry sector stakeholders.
Ensuring the safety and sustainability of territories is also a core pillar of the Plan. It can even be said that it seeks to ensure economic, environmental, and social sustainability.
With 19 structural measures, 150 actions, and an estimated financial envelope of 6.5 billion euros, the Plan aims to modernize the forestry sector and strengthen environmental resilience.
